How amazing to think of the ways you are helping the younger generation -- especially those who will love literature through life. Reading this post reminded me of all the amazing English teachers I've loved in my life.Rebecca Reidhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06062252252301802298noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6543330341390707771.post-70593888123801379832011-04-29T00:00:31.331-04:002011-04-29T00:00:31.331-04:00Ah -- I'd love to do this. I know I'd be nervous, but I'd love that feeling, if I make someone see literature in a new way, and love it.)*ೃ༄ Jillianhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14139487177036647728noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6543330341390707771.post-90506768886413178552011-04-27T09:23:21.142-04:002011-04-27T09:23:21.142-04:00Again: great post. You have practically inspired me to go back and get a teaching certificate.

My daughter is starting 9th grade next year and I so want to discuss literature with her, but at the moment she would prefer to discuss manga. I just found out her summer reading is The Count of Monte Cristo (unabridged) so I asked if I could read it along with her. She just shrugged. Well, I can only hope. I know her reading next year also includes To Kill a Mockingbird and Animal Farm, two of my favorites.Karen K.https://www.blogger.com/profile/13483190930383406559noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6543330341390707771.post-57596558477867109102011-04-26T21:33:26.090-04:002011-04-26T21:33:26.090-04:00Hear hear!Hear hear!Trishahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13917705393662132891noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6543330341390707771.post-9428617072028496362011-04-26T19:56:36.454-04:002011-04-26T19:56:36.454-04:00This was such a great post. There is nothing more exhilarating in the teaching world than that moment where you connect with your kids, in a way that excites and inspires them to learn more. It's hard enough to get teenagers excited about anything these days, much less literature. But it sounds like ya did it. Good for you! I hope you have more of those moments. :)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6543330341390707771.post-46992853500087828312011-04-26T11:12:57.575-04:002011-04-26T11:12:57.575-04:00Amazing post!!!!! Here is one book I'd recommend for discussion when you want students to take the lead: Socratic Circles: Fostering Critical Thinking in Middle and High School by Matt Copeland. Reading this book radically changed the way I approached classroom discussion.
