Birthday Giveaway!

Today I am turning 25. I have mixed feelings about this milestone. On one hand, I now get cheaper car insurance (woot) and now I can rent a car without paying extra fees.

But it also marks another year gone, and what a year it has been. I started my blog almost 11 months ago, I got married, I moved out on my own, and I am still looking for the elusive full-time to pay the bills.

I am looking forward to what the coming year is going to bring. And I am going into it with my fingers crossed tightly in hopes that things get a little better.

And I am also going into it by giving you all a piece of the celebration.

I am giving away TWO gifts up to $15 each to TheBookDepository.com in honor of my my birthday. Make sure they deliver to your country before you enter!

To enter you must do the following:
  1. Comment on this entry and leave your e-mail address.
  2. Tell me your favorite birthday memory.
You don't have to be a follower and you don't need to tweet and you don't need to tell your mom to enter. I will randomly pull two names out of a hat from the entries.

I'm closing the contest Wednesday July 21 at midnight, so make sure you get your entries in before then!

  1. Happy Birthday Allie! I hope you have a wonderful day and that this coming year is FANTASTIC.

My favorite birthday memory: the surprise party my parents gave me when I was in high school - I had NO IDEA about it and I loved the surprise :)

  2. Happy birthday, you young whippersnapper! Aren't you supposed to be getting presents instead of giving them? ;)

My favorite birthday memory is of winning my mom's "who can fall asleep first?" contest at my birthday sleepover party. I was faking . . .

  3. Happy B-day! I turned 25 last year and it's not so bad. It was actually a fantastic year.

My favorite b-day memory was turning 24 while traveling on my own in Europe. I was in Budapest at the time and I didn't know anyone. The awesome 20-something Brits who were running the hostel I stayed at saw that it was my b-day when they checked my passport and they took me and a bunch of people to a karaoke bar where I sang I Will Survive (limited English song selection). It was a great night!

  4. Happy birthday :D! It's also my lil bro's birthday today :)!

My fave birthday memory would have to be *ironically so* the time I got dunked (literally dunked) into the cake :P! The clean up afterwards wasn't so fun but the pictures from that birthday were the best xD!

  5. Happy Birthday!! I hope you have a great day! My birthdays must be really boring, because I'm a a loss for a good memory. I do remember one year I had a really bad day on my birthday, so I just pretended the next day was my special day!

  10. Happy Birthday!

My favorite birthday memory is when a Hard Rock Cafe opened in St. Louis. Being a big fan of the entertainment they provide, we went and the server tells me to get on the table. She then proceeds to have the entire restaurant sing to me while I'm still on the table. As soon as the restaurant stopped singing, I hear "hey Julie" and turns out many of my friends showed up on the oppposite side of the room. Very memorable.

  11. Happy Birthday! As I go through my twenties I also often look back and wonder where the time went!

My favorite birthday memory has to be when I turned 13. Everything was simple then. All of my family was still around and got along, my best friend and I were just beginning our relationship (11 years of friendship!), and I was just happy to be me! Plus, I had a killer inground swimming pool! 13 was a time before responsibility, tragedy, picking yourself up, and other things we all learn the hard way!

    Hope your birthday is great!

  17. Happy happy birthday! My birthday is Nov. 2, so I always had Halloween parties for my birthday. May favorite was probably my 16th. I had a very diverse group of friends and they all showed up and had a great time. About 50 people ended up coming! My parents were saints. :) And late that night I ended up watching Monty Python and the Holy Grail for the first time, which is now one of my favorite movies.

  18. Happy birthday, young thing! My favourite birthday was a few years ago, when my husband and I were just friends. I came to visit him for the weekend and he teased me so much that day about where I wanted to eat that I ended up crying on a street curb! Of course, after we were together, he told me that was his idea of flirtation. And I have to say it worked, I realized I was in love with him soon after... afewofmyfavouritebooks at gmail dot com. (Did you ever get that Zola book I mailed to you way back in April? I kept meaning to ask and then forgot...)

  19. Happy BirthdayAllie! Love you. I'm not sure about any one favorite day, but I do love it when all you kids come over and make my birthday dinner and the festivities, they are the best! One memorable one was, actually my 25th birthday, we were at a bar in Romeo when breaking news came on with then President Reagan being shot. Have a good day, wish you were here with us in Harry Potter land at Islands. Bgoedtel@aol.com. Love, Mom

  21. Thanks for doing this, and happy birthday! I don't have one particular favorite birthday memory, but one would be the time I made my own birthday cake and then dropped it in the (clean) sink. About half of it was completely in pieces, and I just put them back in with some extra icing. :)

  22. It seems we had exactly the same idea for our birthday! Mine is a day later. Happy belated birthday and I hope you had a great day!

My favorite birthday memory is the first birthday I shared with my current boyfriend. I know it sounds corny, but I felt unbelievably lucky. Also, he made me a gift basket that he put together all by himself with all of my favourite thing: good music, a book, lemon water, etcetera.

  23. Aw, happy birthday! My favorite birthday memory--or anyway the one that occurs to me now--is from when I was maybe fourteen and fifteen, and we had a party at the beach. It was great because my friends and I were sort of right at the cusp between being kids and being grown-ups, and I even remember thinking at the time that this would be the last birthday where we'd be able to be so un-self-consciously silly. It's a very good memory. I'm bastet57 AT gmail DOT com

  24. Happy birthday! My family's never been very big on celebrating birthdays, but I do remember looking forward to my 18th birthday and feeling kind of proud of myself for finally being an "adult". Being 27 now, I don't really look forward to getting older anymore, though. :)

  25. Happy happy birthday! I'm glad I got here before it closed....

my email is my first name (at) my first and last name (dot) com. I don't normally enter my email in the comments section, so this makes me nervous, but there are many books I want to own, so I'm willing to risk it for that giftcard!

  26. Happy Birthday! As one who is farther along on the birthday road, I can say that the best approach is the stoic one -- whether you build it or not, they will come!!

It's kind of sad, but I don't have any particular birthday memory that is the best. I wonder if it's because I have an August birthday, and the festivities were always overshadowed by the prospect of the beginning of school. Plus, an August birthday meant that my mom never had the chance to bring birthday cupcakes to my class at school -- I was always incredibly bummed out about that! (Sorry for the depressing bits -- I am otherwise very well adjusted in spite of my birthday thoughts!)

  27. Happy, happy birthday! :)

I think my best birthday memory comes from when I was a girl. My birthday is July 3, and often our town's fireworks celebration landed on my birthday. I have a memory of trying to watch the fireworks show from my upstairs bedroom window on my birthday one year. I always wished the fireworks were for my birthday, and not for some other holiday. LOL

  29. Happy Birthday! Must say that, while I bemoan each birthday myself, the twenties were cool, the thirties were better, and the forties are turning out to be the best ever (just sold my first novel), so have no fear!

Not a big fan of birthdays so, really, my most cherished birthday memories are baking my husband's, kids' and family members' favorite treats on their special days. From banana cream pie to chocolate souffle, I truly enjoy giving a little of my time (and some yummy tastes) to these celebrations. stasiakehoe [at] msn [dot] com

  30. Happy birthday to you (a little late, I understand, but still).

My favorite birthday memory is probably my 18th birthday. It was a snow day on my birthday, so friends and I went out to eat at George Webb (old diner-style restaurant in the Milwaukee area) and then played in the snow for most of the day.

The next school day, I had a birthday party on the stage after school. We all grabbed the most horrendous looking costumes we could find from the shop and played Apples to Apples until we ran out of cards to play with :)
