Outta the Rut Readathong Post 3:

Just checking in....

I was reading Siddhartha this morning. I am still fighting off remnants of that migraine from Friday night/yesterday morning. I have been curled on the chair reading.

I must have fallen asleep. So, today's reading is not off to as good a start as I hoped, but now I have a icy glass of water nearby and 40 pages left in Hesse's work. And I am still feeling like I am in a rut. I think that when I do finish it, I am going to switch to a YA novel. I think I need the boost of something easy before I tackle anything else.

Who is else is failing at reading today? Please tell me I'm not alone!

  1. I'm not participating in the read-a-thon, but I'm definitely in a rut (as I wrote about on my Sunday Salon post). It's not just you!

  2. I am in a complete rut. I actually just did a blog post about it. And it's not just a book rut. It's a little bit of everything rut.

    It's not just you.

  3. I'm trying to read Oliver Twist-can only go so far, then I need a break. I like the story, just can't keep it going though. Must be the weather-LOL.

  4. I'm not officially participating or anything, but I am enjoying a nice weekend of reading. I finally finished Oliver Twist! So that was productive. This afternoon I am going to dig into The Other Life by Ellen Meister, I'd love to be able to finish that too.

I definitely find a nice YA is a good way to get my mind back into reading when I'm in a bit of a rut. Good luck :)

  5. You're not alone! I've been trying to read War and Peace all day, and I've only managed about 30 pages. It's kind of at a slow part so it's tought to stay motivated. Good luck. I'm hoping I get at least another 100 in. We'll see!

  6. No, not alone - I think I've only read about 5 pages so far today! Must do something to try to change that...although it would help if reading wasn't making me sleepy.

  7. You are not alone! My husband has switched to my daughter's Hunger Games books today, and I switched off to nonfiction to jolt the brain. And I am in a writing rut as well. Eeeek! This too shall pass, right?

  8. Allie this is awful. I've only read about another 30 pages and I'll be leaving my house in another hour for Sunday Game Night with the girls (which means I won't be home until 10ish).

*sigh* I meant well. I was reading and then the next thing I know I was waking up. From like a THREE HOUR "nap". What?! I know my body needs the rest, but man alive, it's really preventing me from my 2 book & half of OT goal.

    Tomorrow maybe?!?!

  9. I'm doing terrible, Allie! I read for about five hours yesterday, and plan the same today. But I'm reading pretty slow. I got in about seven chapters of War and Peace, a short story (Henry James), a couple chapters from How To Read Novels Like a Professor, a 50-page bio on Michel de Montaigne, ten classic poems, and two of Montaigne's essays.

I avoided Dickens yesterday, but tonight I'll tackle him...

  10. I don't have any specific plans to read Shakespeare soon but I would like to read a few more plays this year and Shakespeare may be among them. There are a lot of his plays I have yet to read and I'd love to expand my knowledge of them. I'm thinking of picking up Hamlet next. Definitely me know if you have any suggestions :)
