A Victorian Celebration: International Giveaway!

Hey guys!

I've been feeling a bit bad about the lack of international giveaways on my part during the event, so I am bumping one of them up to today. :) Since I live in the U.S., it is easier for me to ship books already in my possession to folks in the States, but that always leaves you international folk out of the fun! So this giveaway is JUST for you.

That's right-only people who live outside the United States can enter.

The prize?

Your choice of a Victorian Classic. That's right-you pick the title and I'll ship off an edition of whichever Victorian you choose (up to $20) to your house. Sounds awesome, right? :)

Here are the details:
  • This giveaway will be open to anyone who resides OUTSIDE the United States. Please make sure to tell me what country you live in!
  • You MUST be a participant of A Victorian Celebration to enter.
  • You MUST be 13 years or older
  • You do not have to follow me or subscribe to qualify
  • You MUST leave me your e-mail so that I contact you if you win
  • The winner will have 48 hours to respond or I will pick a new winner.
  • To enter, comment on this post and answer the following question: Which Victorian would you choose if you won and why?
  • The giveaway will be open until 11:59 PM on Friday, June 15, 2012 EST.
Happy Reading and Good Luck!!

  1. Hello :-) I don't know if I qualify for this as I have yet to actually review anything. I am currently reading The Tenant of Wildfell Hall though. Anyway, on the off chance that I do qualify, I live in the UK, and if I won I would choose either Frances Hodgson Burnett or Charlotte Bronte. The first because I love The Secret Garden and A Little Princess so much (I watched the movie of the latter the other day for the first time in years and was pretty much in tears by the end!),and I'd like to read more by her, and Charlotte Bronte because I don't yet own The Professor, and I love the Brontes so much!

Thanks for hosting this awesome event! :-)

    2. Psssh, as long as you're reading, you qualify!

I just read The Secret Garden in May, and I cannot wait to get to A Little Princess (I just got a copy). Oh, and The Professor! I don't own that one yet!

  2. You're awesome Allie!
It is pretty hard to lay hands on English literature apart from Shakespeare and Dickens here in Austria (I cannot remember anymore how often I've said "No, I don't want to read a translation, don't you have the original?").
Anyway, if I won I'd love to to receive a copy of The Portrait of a Lady by Henry James.
I remember reading an ardent review of it here on your blog around Christmas(?) when I had only just started blogging and reading the classics. It was a wonderful post and you were so enthusiastic about this book, I could hardly believe it. I thought, "Wow, I want to feel like that too!"
Since then I have read several books which I loved with all my heart, but I always wanted to read this particular one, so here's my chance.
My email is michaela.kalcher@gmx.net (yes, Michaela is my horrid first Christian name).
Thanks for backing us international guys :)

  3. Yayyy...thanks Allie, it's a generous giveaway!
If I won, I'd pick Dickens' Great Expectations. I'm Dickens' fan and plan to collect (and read) all his books. From his masterpieces, it's only Great Expectations that I haven't read yet, so I'm quite excited to get it.

I'm from Indonesia, and my email: joviemaria[at]yahoo[dot]com.

I am going to have to try Great Expectations again...I have a long and bitter history with it.

  4. Hmm. I can't join the event because June and July and busy months for me, but I'll be reading Vanity Fair with a couple of friends this September, so I'm two months behind the celebration, hahaha.

This is not a contest entry but in support of your international event (I've been lurking around here for some time now), I'd just like to say that I'd love to buy a new copy of Wuthering Heights. I love the novel and I only have that Bantam mass market edition. I have been forever delaying my purchase of a new trade paperback (my preferred editions).

Good luck everyone and enjoy! :)

  5. Thanks Allie - international giveaway much appreciated.
My choice is Bleak House by Charles Dickens. I began the celebration reading Our Mutual Friend but, based on long ago experience, not expecting much. 500 pages later I'm loving it - Charles Dickens is brilliant!

    1. You're welcome!

I can't wait to get to OMF. I read Bleak House for a readalong a couple years ago, but I want to read it again now that I have a more positive perspective on Dickens. :)

  6. Thanks! It's always nice to see an international giveaway. I understand though as my family lives in the US. Shipping is soooo expensive. My giveaway for this event will be international, so you can plan on there being another. :)

I live in the UK--Scotland to be specific. If I were to win, I would pick a copy of The Woman in White. I loved it, but I checked it out from the library and don't have my own copy.

    1. I have a lot of the books already in my possession, and shipping them overseas doesn't make much sense when Book Depository will do it for me for free, know what I mean? I have a couple others planned that are international later on. :)

Oh, The Woman in White is such an AWESOME book. :)

  7. Wow great, finally I can enter my first giveaway!

I would choose "The Moonstone" by Wilkie Collins. I love crime/detective literature and thrillers and one cannot forget that it all started in England in the 19th century. Having read "The Woman in White" I am extremely confident of Collins' mastery both at creating a mystery and at putting it down to create a work of art and a literary landmark.

    I live in Spain.

  8. An international giveaway, finally! :)
To be honest, I've been waiting for this for a while. I have just finished Wilde's The Happy Prince and Other Tales for the event.

My choice will be The Woman in White from Wilkie Collins. I live in Indonesia, by the way.
    Thanks for the giveaway!

  9. How exciting! I think I'd opt for Middlemarch - even though I feel like I'm cheating on Dickens by saying that. I just finished The Mill on the Floss a couple of weeks ago, and other than that I'd only read The Lifted Veil (great post by the way!) by Eliot, so I'm keen to get some more of her writing in my hands. I live in Dublin, Ireland, and my email address is katesecondedition [at] gmail.com

    1. Eliot is a personal favorite of mine, so good choice. ;) Middlemarch is definitely one of her best (but I prefer Mill-did you love it?).

  10. This was a bit difficult to answer because I have a few Victorian novels myself unread. There are many that I want to read, but not sure if I want to own them. I am partial to the Sherlock Holmes series by Conan Doyle. Then again, I really want to read Anne Bronte's works and more Elizabeth Gaskell. I really did want a copy of North & South or Wives and Daughters! I adored Cranford. Ooh too many choices!

    1. Lol. I know that feeling!

I managed to read ALL of the Sherlock Holmes novels and stories in my first year of blogging. They are SO GOOD. :)

  11. Hmm, I already have so many...

...I would love the OUP version of Anthony Trollope's 'Rachel Ray' though as it's one I don't own :)

  12. Hi Allie, I am from South Africa. It's a tough choice between Cranford - Elizabeth Gaskell and The Importance of being Earnest - Oscar Wilde. I think I'd go for Cranford though if I did win. Thank you for the giveaway :) terrirens(at)gmail(dot)com
