David Copperfield Giveaway (A Victorian Celebration).

*This was supposed to post on Friday, but because of internet issues, did not. The ending date has been adjusted*

Well, we are in the home stretch for the Victorian Celebration folks! With about 2 weeks left in July, I am wondering whether I will ever manage to finish Nicholas Nickleby and Barchester Towers-the two books I REALLY want to get done before the end of the month. Granted, this week has been rather hectic, but I really need to get in some more reading time this week!

Today I am giving away a book that is very close to my heart. I have struggled with Dickens since I was in ninth grade, but I am determined to like him. In February, I read HIS favorite work, David Copperfield, and fell in love with it. Hands down, it is the best book I have read in 2012.

Here is a little synopsis taken from Goodreads.com:

"David Copperfield is the story of a young man’s adventures on his journey from an unhappy and impoverished childhood to the discovery of his vocation as a successful novelist. Among the gloriously vivid cast of characters he encounters are his tyrannical stepfather, Mr. Murdstone; his formidable aunt, Betsey Trotwood; the eternally humble yet treacherous Uriah Heep; frivolous, enchanting Dora; and the magnificently impecunious Micawber, one of literature’s great comic creations.

In David Copperfield—the novel he described as his “favorite child”—Dickens drew revealingly on his own experiences to create one of his most exuberant and enduringly popular works, filled with tragedy and comedy in equal measure."

It is a FABULOUS book and one that I cannot recommend enough!

  1. I'm hoping to finish Wuthering Heights and continue to make progress on David Copperfield. I'm afraid that I won't finish it before the end of the month, though.

  2. I enjoyed Copperfield too, but I thought it dragged in the middle. And I hate Dora, so it's not at the top of my list of Dickens favorites. Still, a good read. No need to enter me in the drawing as I own a copy already.

Just a couple more weeks of the Victorian celebration but I can't stop reading Victorians! I'm reading The Odd Women by George Gissing and I still want to read Trollope and some others.

  3. This is my absolute favorite Dickens novel. I love it so much. I just finished The Return of the Native and Villette. Now I'm planning on either reading The Secret Garden or maybe Sherlock Holmes Final Problem for the remainder of the Vic. Celebration.

  4. Wooo! I've read probably the one book I'll get done for the celebration, and that was The Secret Garden. I'd intended to read some Dickens but time is a'tickin' away. Would LOVE to win a copy of this as it' one of Dickens's finest that I haven't tried yet!

  5. I only challenged myself to read three books, and I'm not doing too well on that so far... so my last two weeks will be an attempt to read The Warden (Anthony Trollope) and possibly Jane Eyre. Luckily I have a vacation in there so I'm hoping for lots of airplane reading time and beach reading time, etc.

  6. I am in the middle of Little Dorrit and need to finish it. I expect to read The Hound of the Baskervilles before the month is over too.

I love David Copperfield. It's easy to see why it is Dickens' favorite child.

  7. Sadly, I have not gotten to as many books as I had planned. I'm trying to finish Middlemarch and Anna Karenina and I'm hoping to get to one more shorter one. We shall see. The month really got away from me! Thanks for another great giveaway!
