Home at Last.

Matt and I arrived home about an hour ago from our excursion down to Indiana for the Indianapolis 500. Overall it was a great weekend of family and friends. We ate far too much good food, and I drank far too much at dinner on Saturday night. :) But it is good to be home and away from the heat (seriously, it was SO HOT. About 98 degrees in the air, and the track temperature was 130...it was HOT). Thankfully, we had a good breeze during the race and remembered to reapply sunscreen a dozen times, so we all escaped free of sunburn.

Anyway, now that we're happily home after a long drive this morning, I'm taking advantage of our air conditioning and the snuggles from the cats (they missed us). I have a bunch of school stuff to do today-including finishing a set of essays. I'm not really looking forward to it, but considering I had a fun weekend, I guess I can deal with it.

In reading news, I haven't made a ton of progress on any of the books I should be reading. I've been so preoccupied that I've been craving some mindless reading. So, I caved and downloaded Fifty Shades of Grey last week. And while they writing is awful and the story not that compelling, I wound up reading all three of them in the last few days. *shrugs* Perhaps that says how stressed I have been. In any case, now I am feeling guilty wasting time reading crap when I could have been making progress on other things. Meh. It happens, right?

Well, that's all for now. I need to get started on these essays sooner rather than later. We still have three weeks left, so I can't slip into summer mode yet!

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!

  1. I have a friend in Houston whose boyfriend surprised her with a trip up to the Indy 500 for her birthday, so there were two of my friends there. :D

  2. Glad to have you back! I almost caved and read the first of the three Fifty Shades, because it is selling like crazy at work. But sadly, I am too cheap to spend the money. :P

  3. Reading crap while progress could have been made on other things? No, that never happens to me at all *looks shiftily around for someone to contradict me* IT DOESN'T, OK?! (It totally does. Alllll the time). Glad you had a lovely time!

  4. Good for you for reading some crap. I believe in the restorative power of crap and will probably read them at some point, too.

  5. Why is it hot everywhere except here?! Send some heat to Austria when you've had enough of it please!
At least we have both wasted the weekend reading-wise :)

  6. Oh gosh Allie I can only imagine the heat that you dealt with at the Indy. Still I think it would be loads of fun to attend just once. The people watching must be to die for!

And as for Fifty Shades, *shrug*, I've been reading the House of Night series this three-day weekend. I have a student who has pestered me for the past two years, and since she's going to high school in EIGHT FREAKIN' DAYS I have A LOT of reading to do. I don't know if I'll get up to the 9th book, but I'm at least through 3. #progressforth

Also, there's a kid in the 7th grade who is reading Fifty Shades WITH HER MOM. I don't know if either (a) who mom is living under a rock and is clueless to what is IN the book or (b) mom is some gypsy new agey therapist who believes reading this book together will inspire gateway convo. And yup, I'm all Miss McJudgey in that statement because although open dialogue IS great, why oh why does a 7th grader need to be subjected to BDSM lifestyle?? How is **that** relevant.
